Welcome! We are glad you are here.

The Wesley is a welcoming campus ministry at SHSU offering multiple ways to connect, grow, and serve throughout the semester.

  • Small Groups – Student-led groups for real, honest conversations about faith and life, with support to share struggles and celebrate wins.

  • Service Projects – Hands-on community involvement with UM Army, Bearkat All Paws In, Habitat for Humanity, the SHSU Food Pantry, and more.

  • Retreats – Seasonal getaways including a Fall Retreat, spring All-Campus Retreat at Lakeview, and Leadership Retreat.

Wednesday Night Worship

Wednesday Worship is the highlight of our week — and a great excuse to unplug for a bit. We kick off with a free dinner at 6pm, then dive into lively, contemporary music led by our student praise band, mixed with a few traditional elements and a real, relevant message from our campus minister. No matter how packed your week is, we want this to be the best part of it.

First time here? No expectations, no pressure — just come as you are. In a world of constant noise and notifications, Wednesday Worship is a space to slow down, pray, reflect, and find some peace to carry with you into the week. All you need is an open heart.

Connection

Fellowship events are where friendships happen. From holiday parties and lip sync battles to kickball tournaments, movie nights, and game nights, our Leadership Council’s fellowship chair keeps the calendar packed with ways to unwind, meet new people, and take a break from the grind of college life. We also team up with other ministries to make things even bigger.

Follow along, stop by campus, or reach out — we'd love for you to join us at the next one.

Service Projects

'The Measure of a Life is Its Service'

We live out SHSU's core value of service, showing up wherever our community needs a hand. Our students are part of UM Army, Bearkat All Paws In, FUMC's Great Day of Service, Good Shepherd Mission, Habitat for Humanity, and the SHSU Food Pantry — real impact, real connection.

You don't have to be a regular at Wednesday Worship to get involved. If you're looking for a way to give back and meet students who care about the same things you do, the Wesley is where to start.

Small Groups

Grow your faith alongside friends in one of our small groups. Topics are chosen and led by students, so conversations stay real, relevant, and relatable — no matter what you're going through. It's also a safe space to share what's weighing on you or celebrate the wins, and have people actually pray with you about it.

Reach out to find a group that fits your schedule, or ask about leading your own!

Retreats

"Every semester at Sam, we hit pause on the routine and head out for a retreat. Our Fall Retreat is just for SHSU Wesley — a chance for members old and new to bond and build a stronger community. Our All-Campus Retreat happens each spring at Lakeview, bringing together Wesley groups from nearby universities for a weekend of outdoor activities, worship, and small groups. We also hold a Leadership Retreat, where our student council plans out a semester of fun, service, and worship.

Want the details? Stop by or reach out — your next getaway is waiting."
